What is an Itinerary
The itinerary template and map is intended for itineraries that cover a number of waypoints. The itinerary can be highly customised - a waypoint can either be a product listing or a custom image/description. Roam will calculate the distance and time required. Once developed as part of your Roam theme it can be used anywhere on your site with no further costs. After the completion of Itineraries on your site, there is a small time involved in tweaking your theme to display them. Please contact your dedicated project manager for more information.
How to create a new Itinerary
A. Create your trip page
CONTENT
- Go to Pages - Itineraries, click on "New Entry"
- On the right-hand side under "Entry Type" select "Road Trip"
- Add the information about this itinerary
- Under "Route" click on Add Step - select the product listings
- If you want to add some other information, you can add another content block under Page Builder - "Add Block" (you'll find this located below the "Route" field)
MAP SETTINGS
6. Go to "Map Settings" tab and fill in the information required
- Map ID and Layout ID - your project manager will supply these. They are required for the map to display and show your itinerary.
- Positioning - this requires zoom and lat/long information.
- Zoom - we set up default zoom as shown below. However, you might need to adjust it so the full trip (all the steps) is visible on the map
- Current Zoom 10
- Min. Zoom 9
- Max. Zoom 16
- Zoom - we set up default zoom as shown below. However, you might need to adjust it so the full trip (all the steps) is visible on the map
-
- Lat/long (latitude and longitude)
- you can take the lat/long from google maps. Just like with the zoom, you might need yo adjust these so the full trip is visible on the map.
- to get lat/long, go to https://maps.google.com/ and find the location of the trip. Then right click on the map will reveal the lat/long.
- Lat/long (latitude and longitude)
7. Once you are happy with the page, click "Create". You can then add that Itinerary to your website's main menu via Navigation (or wherever you want the Itinerary to sit).
B. Create your steps - optional
If a particular step isn't among your product listings or you would like to add a custom image or description as your step, you can create it yourself and add information manually.
- Go to Pages - Itineraries
- Click on "New Entry"
- On the right-hand side under "Entry Type" select "Step"
- Add information about the step (e.g. walk in a national park, cafe, museum etc...). Please note, only fields with the red * are compulsory, the rest is optional however for the Itinerary to work correctly, you need to add full address and lat/long details too.
- Once you have your Itinerary steps set up, you can add them to your trip page.
