With Roam’s integration with Instagram, you can create visually compelling user-generated content at the click of a button.
Before you start:
To set up your Instagram feeds you will first need to ensure your Instagram account is set to a business profile.
If you’re yet to convert your profile visit Instagram’s help page here for full instructions.
Note: Converting your Instagram account to business will also require that you set up a Facebook business page. This is a requirement of Facebook.
Setting up a new Instagram wall
To set up a social wall on any page there are 3 steps to follow. See the step by step instructions below.
Step 1: Add a feed
Once your account is converted to a business profile, head to Data Feeds > Instagram on the left-hand side of the Roam platform. From here you will need to sign in with the Facebook credentials of a user who has administrator access to the Facebook business page and thus, also the Instagram account.
After you have logged in with Facebook, you will be taken back to the Roam platform with confirmation you are now logged in.
Roam allows you to generate Instagram walls for specific #hashtags or @business accounts.
To create a new wall:
- Click the +feed button and a window will appear.
- Click on the + New Entry icon in the bottom left corner.
- Now you need to specify whether your need feed is for a #hashtags or @business Instagram account under the Entry Type drop-down.
- If you want to pull a #hashtag, ensure you put a # before your hashtag. If you are pulling a business account then you will need to add the @ symbol before the account name. See the example below.
After creating your #hashtag or @business account feed, you will need to wait 24 hours for the content to populate in Roam.
Pro Tip: Roam doesn’t just pull through the social feed of your destination’s business profile, you can also add the feeds of any business profile! As an example, if a local operator has a business profile you could pull in their social feed for a blog post specifically about their business or attraction.
2. Create a widget
While you wait for Roam to import your new social feed, you need to create a widget that will allow you to embed the feed into any content page, blog post or product entry.
- Go to Pages in the platform and then to the widgets tab
- Press the +New Entry button in the top right corner.
- Once your new entry is open, change the Entry Type to Instagram in the top right corner of the page.
- Choose your title, this will display above your social wall. It could be a headline, your @businessaccount name or the #hashtag, it’s entirely up to you!
- Click +Feed to pick the #hashtag or @business account from your list.
- If needed, add your text description (if required). This will sit between your title and the social feed.
- If you have multiple colour accents in your destination’s theme then you will need to select the required colour under Style.
- Save your entry and allow 24 hours for Roam to import your new feed!
3. Add a widget to an entry:
Now that your Instagram feed has imported, it’s time to add it to a page or product entry.
Note: There are two ways to add an Instagram widget depending on your entry type. Refer to one of the below depending on which entry you need to update.
Adding a widget to a content page or blog:
- Go to Pages on the left-hand side menu
- Open the page entry that you want to add the Instagram feed to.
- Once you have the page open, add the Widget page builder block to your entry and select the feed you’re after.
- Save the entry and your page will now have an engaging new visual component!
Adding a widget to a product entry:
- Go to the products on the left-hand side menu
- Open the product entry that you want to add the Instagram feed to.
- Once you have the page open, open the Custom tab.
- Under the heading Page Builder, add the Widget block to your entry
- Click + add widget and select the widget you created for your new social feed.
- Save the entry and your page will now have an engaging new visual component!
